John Martin, Paradise Lost - Pandemonium (Book 1)

Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney

Date: 1824
Technique: Mezzotint with etching, 20.3 x 29.0 cm

Cornice or freeze, with bossy sculptures graven:
The roof was fretted gold. Not Babylon
Nor great Alcairo, such magnificence
Equalled in all their glories...
